With the Variable Flow Turbo (VFT), Acura has devised a simple, yet elegant solution for reducing turbo lag. At low rpm, a long valve smoothly narrows the incoming passage and speeds the exhaust flow. This keeps the turbine spinning quickly, so there is plenty of turbo boost at low rpm. As rpm rises, the valve opens, allowing the increased exhaust volume to flow freely through a second intake chamber, keeping turbo boost high. The result is the instant and steady power delivery of a much larger engine, while retaining the light weight and cruising efficiency of four cylinders.
